An EE eSIM lives inside the phone's own hardware rather than on a removable plastic card. Instead of a physical SIM, your EE eSIM is downloaded as a profile over Wi-Fi or mobile data. Once active, it works exactly like a physical SIM — you can make calls, send texts and use mobile data on the EE network.
EE eSIM support runs from iPhone XS onward, Pixel 3 onward, Galaxy S20 onward, and most current Android flagships — and dual SIM phones can run a physical SIM and an eSIM side by side.

Fixing SIM not detected on Android (EE eSIM Setup)
Get Wi-Fi sorted beforehand, along with the EE eSIM QR code, which typically comes by email or appears in the EE app or account portal once ordered.
The iPhone path is Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code — scan EE's code and complete the prompts for naming and priority.
On Samsung or most Android phones: Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Add Mobile Plan, then scan when prompted. Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM.

Fixing SIM not recognised on iPhone — EE eSIM Setup
The EE eSIM profile downloads by itself once scanned — usually one to five minutes, Wi-Fi kept on throughout. EE's network name shows in the status bar once it's ready.
When an EE eSIM won't activate, it's usually one of three things — an incompatible device, eSIM not enabled on the account, or a QR code (single-use) already scanned. EE can send a replacement.

When to replace your SIM card (EE eSIM Setup)
Activation not going through: confirm Wi-Fi is connected, reboot, and try again via Settings → Mobile Data.
No connection right after EE eSIM activates: cycle aeroplane mode, then verify Settings → Mobile Data has EE selected as the active line.
Certain devices drop the eSIM profile during a factory reset — EE will set it up again once the account is confirmed.
The same EE eSIM QR code won't work twice, so moving to a new phone means using the EE app or contacting support.

eSIM vs physical SIM on EE (EE eSIM Setup)
Speed and coverage are identical between an EE eSIM and a physical card — eSIM's real edge is convenience: no plastic, instant activation, no swap to change lines. Physical SIMs only win on older, eSIM-incompatible phones.
