What 'SIM not provisioned' means and how to fix it (How to Activate EE eSIM)
| Device | EE eSIM Support | Min. iOS / Android Version |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 16 / 15 / 14 | ✓ Supported | iOS 16 or later |
| iPhone XS / XR / 11 / 12 / 13 | ✓ Supported | iOS 12.1 or later |
| Samsung Galaxy S24 / S23 / S22 | ✓ Supported | Android 11 or later |
| Google Pixel 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 | ✓ Supported | Android 10 or later |
| iPhone 8 / X and older | ✗ Not supported | Physical SIM only |
An EE eSIM lives inside the phone's hardware rather than on a removable card — the profile downloads over Wi-Fi or mobile data instead. Once active, it behaves exactly like a physical SIM for calls, texts and data on EE's network.
EE eSIM works on iPhone XS onward, Pixel 3 onward, Galaxy S20 onward and most current Android flagships — dual SIM phones can run a physical SIM alongside it.

Get a stable Wi-Fi connection ready first, plus the EE eSIM QR code — usually emailed or shown in the EE app or account portal after ordering.
iPhone users: Settings, Mobile Data, Add eSIM, then Use QR Code to scan EE's code, finishing with the label and SIM priority prompts.
Android generally: Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Add Mobile Plan, scanning EE's QR when prompted; Pixel: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM.

Scanning the code triggers an automatic download of the EE eSIM profile — usually one to five minutes. Stay on Wi-Fi throughout, and EE's network name should show in the status bar once done.
A failed activation usually means one of three things: the device isn't eSIM-compatible, eSIM isn't enabled on the account, or the QR code (single-use only) has already been scanned — EE can send a replacement.

EE eSIM stuck at activation: check Wi-Fi, restart the phone, then retry from Settings → Mobile Data.
Signal missing post-activation: try cycling aeroplane mode, then check Settings → Mobile Data shows the EE eSIM as the active data line.
The eSIM can disappear after a factory reset on some devices; EE re-provisions it once ownership is confirmed.
Re-scanning won't move an EE eSIM to a new phone — that has to go through the EE app or customer support.

eSIM vs physical SIM on EE — during activation
Speed and coverage are identical between an EE eSIM and a physical card. eSIM's edge: no fiddly plastic, near-instant activation, switching lines without a card swap. A physical SIM still wins on older phones that don't support eSIM at all.
