A PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code is an 8-digit code used to unlock a SIM card that has been blocked after too many incorrect PIN attempts. If you enter your O2 SIM PIN incorrectly three times in a row, your SIM will become blocked and you will see a message asking for your PUK code. Entering the wrong PUK code ten times will permanently destroy the SIM.
!
⚠ Do NOT guess the PUK — 10 wrong attempts permanently destroy the SIM
Unlike the PIN (3 attempts), you get 10 PUK attempts total across all time. Entering the wrong PUK 10 times permanently destroys the SIM card — it cannot be unblocked and a replacement must be ordered. Only enter the PUK once you have confirmed the correct code from your online account, SIM packaging, or network customer service.
Getting an unlock code from O2
Your O2 PUK code can be found in several ways without having to call customer service:
1. O2 account online: Log in to your O2 account at the O2 APN hub. Go to your SIM or account details section — the PUK code is usually listed alongside your SIM information.
2. O2 app: Open the O2 app and go to your account or SIM settings. Your PUK code should be visible in the SIM details section.
3. Original SIM packaging: The PUK code is printed on the credit-card-sized card your SIM came inside. Check any original packaging you may have kept.
4. Call O2 customer service: If none of the above options work, call O2 and ask for your PUK code. You will need to verify your identity. See the O2 APN hub for the correct number.

Unlocking your phone from O2 online
When your phone displays SIM card locked — enter PUK code, type the 8-digit PUK code on the unlock screen. You will then be asked to set a new 4-digit PIN of your choice. Enter the new PIN twice to confirm. Your SIM will immediately unlock and reconnect to the O2 network.

What to do after O2 provides unlock code
You can disable the SIM PIN entirely if you prefer — go to Settings → Security → SIM Card Lock and toggle off Lock SIM Card. Alternatively, change your PIN to something more memorable via the same menu. A SIM without a PIN is less secure but eliminates the risk of accidentally locking it.
What if I enter the PUK code wrong?
You have ten attempts to enter the correct PUK code. After ten incorrect attempts, the SIM is permanently blocked and cannot be recovered. You will need to order a free replacement SIM from O2 — your phone number and account will transfer automatically to the new SIM.

O2 mobile data may stop working due to an incorrect APN, a temporary network outage, an expired data plan, or a SIM issue. Follow the steps in this guide to identify and fix the cause.
How do I reset my O2 APN settings?
On Android: go to Settings → Network → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names, then tap the menu and select 'Reset to default'. On iPhone: go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
Does O2 have a network outage in my area?
Check the O2 website or their social media channels for real-time outage information. You can also check third-party sites like Downdetector for user-reported O2 outages.
Why does O2 show signal but no internet?
If O2 shows signal but no internet, the APN settings may be incorrect or missing. Check the APN settings on your device and compare them to the correct O2 values in our APN guide.
How long does a O2 outage usually last?
Most O2 network outages are resolved within a few hours. For planned maintenance, O2 usually notifies customers in advance. Check the O2 status page for current updates.
