An EE eSIM sits in the handset itself, not on a removable card. The profile downloads over Wi-Fi or data and then behaves exactly like a physical SIM.
EE eSIM works on iPhone XS and later, Pixel 3 and later, Galaxy S20 and later, plus most modern Android flagships, with dual SIM handsets taking both.

Setting up EE eSIM on your device
Two prerequisites: reliable Wi-Fi and EE's eSIM QR code, emailed or available in the EE app.
iPhones: open Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM, choose Use QR Code, scan EE's code, and complete the labelling/primary-secondary prompts that follow.
On Android: Settings → Connections → SIM Card Manager → Add Mobile Plan, scan EE's code. Pixel uses Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Add eSIM.

Troubleshooting EE eSIM issues
Once scanned, the EE eSIM profile downloads on its own — generally a one-to-five-minute wait with Wi-Fi on. EE appears in the status bar once complete.
Activation failures on EE eSIM typically come down to device incompatibility, eSIM not being switched on for the account, or a QR code already used once — EE will reissue it.

Supported devices for EE eSIM
Activation stuck? Check Wi-Fi, restart, then retry from Settings → Mobile Data.
No signal after activating? Cycle aeroplane mode, then confirm EE is the active data line in Settings → Mobile Data.
A factory reset can wipe the eSIM on some phones; EE restores it after verifying the account.
Transferring to a new handset requires the EE app or support, since the QR code works once.

eSIM vs physical SIM on EE (EE eSIM vs Physical SIM)
An EE eSIM matches a physical card exactly on speed and coverage; the difference is convenience — no plastic, instant activation, switching lines without a swap. Older phones without eSIM support are the one case a physical SIM still wins.
